Trattoria del Nuovo Macello is a long-standing Milanese address with roots going back to 1928, when it opened opposite the former city slaughterhouse. The current family took over in 1959, with Maddalena cooking tripe and cassoeula for the workers who filled the dining room each day.
Much of that spirit remains. The dining room still keeps its old radio and enamel jugs, and the kitchen continues to focus on straightforward Milanese dishes made from well sourced ingredients. The signature here is the cotoletta, served thick and on the bone, one of the most recognisable in the city.
Run by the third generation, it stays one of the city’s reliable places for honest, carefully made cucina milanese.
