With its iconic wines, Burgundy—and more specifically the Côte d’Or—still holds surprises. Among them is La Ferme de la Ruchotte, a 13th-century farmhouse where chef, farmer and breeder Frédéric Ménager reinterprets bourgeois haute cuisine through an ingredient-first, garden-to-plate approach. He humorously calls it “paradise on earth for poultry” and describes his cooking as “rustic,” though understatement defines his refined, essentials-only style.
Formerly sous-chef at Alain Chapel’s three-Michelin-starred restaurant, Ménager has earned his place among France’s finest chefs. Open for lunch Wednesday to Sunday, La Ferme de la Ruchotte serves a changing five-course menu and twelve special Sunday feasts each year, including Vol-au-Vent and le Ragoût de Homard de l’Île de Sein.
