A lively neighbourhood taberna near El Retiro, opened in 2010 by Miguel Ángel Jiménez. La Catapa is rooted in traditional Madrid cooking, with a strong focus on seasonal produce and straightforward, well executed dishes. Expect anything from anchovies and shellfish to callos, oxtail and fish of the day, with the menu shifting according to the market. Wine is taken particularly seriously, with a large selection spanning Spain and beyond and a focus on smaller producers. The bar is a good place to eat, especially if you want to order a few half portions and try more of the menu.
