Review
A Marseille institution for more than a century, Grand Bar des Goudes has been part of the historic fishing village of Les Goudes since 1920. Since taking over the restaurant in 2000, the current owners have preserved its local character while maintaining a menu centred on Mediterranean seafood and traditional Marseille specialities.
The kitchen is led by Marseille born head chef Benjamin Mathieu. He trained with Dominique Frérard at Les Trois Forts before working in some of France’s leading restaurants, including L’Oustau de Baumanière, Le Louis XV Alain Ducasse in Monaco and Le Bristol in Paris. After several years in Paris, he returned to Marseille, where he took over La Grotte à Callelongue before assuming the reins of Grand Bar des Goudes.
His cooking combines classic Marseille recipes with a contemporary seafood bistro approach. In 2025, Benjamin Mathieu was crowned Champion of France at the French Bouillabaisse Championship held in Sausset-les-Pins.
