A charming, traditional bistro on Rue du Cherche-Midi, Le Petit Verdot is run by Hideyoshi “Hide” Ishizuka, who previously spent ten years as sommelier at Château Cordeillan-Bages in Pauillac before moving to Paris. The intimate dining room retains the feel of a proper neighbourhood bistro, with exposed beams and a zinc counter.
A Japanese chef leads the kitchen, with cooking firmly rooted in classic French cuisine. The frequently changing menu might include marinated turbot, grilled gambas, wild sea bass with shellfish broth, braised beef cheek or sweetbreads. The wine list is incredible and remarkably well priced, reflecting Ishizuka’s deep knowledge and background as a sommelier. A timeless Paris address for generous French cooking and seriously good wine.
