Dourambeis is a true seafood and fish institution, and a place I always try to visit when I am in Athens. The quality of the fish and shellfish is consistently outstanding, and it remains one of the most reliable addresses for classic Greek seafood.
Established in 1932 in Mikrolimano, Piraeus, the restaurant has built its reputation on simplicity and freshness. The interior retains a maritime character, with round windows and archival photographs referencing the coastal history of the area.
The menu focuses on daily catch, depending on what the boats bring in. Sea bream, sea bass, red mullet, dentex and grouper feature regularly, alongside crayfish and large Greek prawns. Shellfish such as clams and scallops are served grilled or steamed. Longstanding staples include house made taramasalata, cured lakerda and prawn soup. Desserts follow the traditional route, with seasonal spoon sweets and loukoumades.
