Opened in 1944 in Barceloneta, La Cova Fumada is one of the city’s most unchanged, old-school addresses — a neighbourhood bar that has kept its character intact for generations. It’s also credited with creating the bomba, the now-classic Barceloneta croquette filled with meat and potatoes and served with a spicy sauce.
Much of the menu revolves around the market and the grill: simply prepared sardines, salt cod, baby clams, grilled artichokes, and the day’s fish cooked over the plancha with minimal intervention. The flavours are direct and honest — exactly what locals have been returning for since the 1940s.
