Farang is an excellent Thai restaurant in Highbury & Islington headed by British chef Sebby Holmes, whose cooking is shaped by his time working with Thai cuisine at Begging Bowl. His approach reflects a deep respect for Thai techniques and flavour balance, interpreted through a contemporary lens.
The name Farang translates as “foreigner” in Thai, a playful reference to the restaurant’s point of view. Rather than aiming for strict authenticity, the kitchen focuses on balance, freshness and precision, combining Thai flavours with high-quality seasonal British produce. Key ingredients are sourced directly from Thailand and flown in regularly from Bangkok, ensuring vibrancy and clarity in the dishes.
Originally launched as a street-food project before settling permanently in its current location, Farang has evolved into a confident, produce driven restaurant where menus shift with the seasons and everything is prepared from scratch.
