Just off Plaza Mayor, Casa Revuelta has been serving one of Madrid’s most iconic bites since 1966: its battered cod, made from an unchanged family recipe passed down orally through generations. The tavern’s Moorish tiles, silver bar and narrow, lively space capture the spirit of old Madrid, alongside cold beer, vermouth and a few classic bar snacks.
A second outpost opened in 2021 on Calle de Cuchilleros 10, offering more room and a terrace, but the essence remains the same. For many locals, this is still the city’s benchmark for fried cod.
