Casa Balbino

Casa Balbino traces its roots to 1924, when Balbino Izquierdo arrived in Sanlúcar from the small Sorian village of Las Fraguas at just 13 years old. He began working in an ultramarinos, joining the wave of northerners who shaped the grocery-and-tavern culture of Cádiz province. Through perseverance and experience gained across several shops, he eventually took over the store where he had spent his youth and transformed it—together with his wife, the Sanluqueña Mercedes Guzmán—into the bar that would carry his name. Today, Casa Balbino remains an emblematic Sanlúcar institution, known for its lively atmosphere, deep local roots, and simple Andalusian cooking.
